Coach Philip Eng is the Head Coach for MVP 12 Black. His playing career began at Rockville High School, where he earned the title of Most Valuable Player in 1997. Since then, he has competed in CYC and Jin Long 9-Man Volleyball from 1996 to the present, as well as playing for UMBC’s club team from 1998 to 2001. Coach Phil has also been active in various volleyball leagues, grass and beach doubles, and USAV tournaments.
His coaching journey started in 1998 as an assistant coach at Rockville HS. More recently, he co-led the MEVC 11U team to a CHRVA Regional Championship in 2022-2023. This is Coach Phil’s second year as the Head Coach for MVP 12U Black. Last year, he guided the team to another CHRVA Regional Championship and an AES/USAV #2 ranking for the 2023-2024 season. Coach Phil also serves as the JV and Varsity Assistant Coach for Clarksburg High School Girls Volleyball and coaches the CYC Girl’s Gold team.
Professionally, Coach Phil works for the Department of the Treasury and is a Certified Personal Trainer. He holds two Bachelor’s Degrees—one in Biological Sciences from UMBC and another in Sports Management from Towson University. He currently resides in Clarksburg, MD, with his wife Jean and their two children, Kirsten and Tre.
