This season will be Coach Chai’s first at MVP, as he will be assistant coaching MVP 12s. Coach Chai began his volleyball career as a member of the varsity boys’ volleyball team at Magruder High School in 1997. He continued playing on recreational teams during his time at the University of Maryland (UMD) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), participating in CYC 9-man Volleyball, grass, and beach tournaments throughout his college years. In 2005, Coach Chai embarked on his coaching career at Walt Whitman High School, leading the Boys Varsity team. In 2011, he took over the Girls Varsity Volleyball program, building it up and guiding the team to the county playoffs in 2013. In 2015, he relocated to Germany, where he supported the volleyball programs at Kaiserslautern and Ramstein High Schools. In 2024, Coach Chai served as the head coach for the Rockville Volleyball Academy U12 Boys Team, guiding players ages 9–12 in building fundamental volleyball skills while fostering teamwork, confidence, and a love for the game. He has attended Gold Medal Square and Art of Coaching Volleyball clinics to refine his coaching philosophy, which emphasizes learning by doing, with minimal time spent on talking.

Professionally, Coach Chai teaches technology and coordinates internships and apprenticeships at Watkins Mill High School for Montgomery County Public Schools. He holds an Information Systems degree from UMBC and a Master’s degree in Special Education from George Washington University.
