Coach Ben OuYang is currently the travel coordinator for MVP. He played volleyball for two years in high school and continued at the University of Rochester, where he joined the club team. During his time there, he was coached by the future founder of the Rochester Bootlegger program, which had not yet been established. Coach Ben’s coaching experience includes two years coaching boys’ volleyball in MCPS and two years with the MVP program.
Coach Ben’s connections within MVP include a memorable first-round playoff victory against Coach JJ’s Blair team in his first year of coaching, as well as having been Coach Anthony’s principal. Coach Homer also attended Coach Ben’s wedding, acting as undercover security for the event.
Outside of volleyball, Ben has been a public educator for 32 years and plans to retire in December, after which he will transition to working full-time for the Catholic church. He has been married for 27 years to his wife Jia-Shieu, and they have two children, Kaitlin and Timothy.
